A former Ogden radio personality has filed a $1 million civil rights lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Ogden radio station KDAB.
Wayne Thompson, who worked as an announcer from August 1986 to October 1987, claimed in the suit he was fired from his job because he is black.Thompson also alleged other employees were given more favorable time slots and working conditions and that he was denied learning opportunities, incentive pay and paid lunches.
He said the station justified firing him by telling him they served a primarily "white market" and the announcers needed to appeal to that market.
Thompson is seeking $500,000 in general damages and $500,000 in exemplary damages.
KDAB station manager Randy Mathis, who is named as a defendant, said Friday he was not aware the suit had been filed and declined to comment on it.
