The Salt Lake Women's Bowling Association is competing with its counterparts in Baton Rouge, La., and San Antonio, Texas, to be host of the 1993 Women's International Bowling Congress championship tournament and annual meeting.

The tournament is the world's largest sports event for women. The weeklong annual meeting averages more than 3,500 delegates, and a championship tournament averages 40,000 participants over a 60-day period. Together they account for a $16 million to $20 million impact on the host area's economy, said WIBC spokesman Jerry Topczewski.
