Actor James Garner entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles Monday for surgery to repair a weakened artery, hospital officials said.

Garner, who turned 60 Sunday, was to undergo a battery of tests leading to an operation Thursday to repair an aneurysm, or weakening, in the wall of the aorta, the main artery leading from the heart, hospital spokesman Ron Wise said. Doctors found the aneurysm in the abdominal area.

Garner was in good condition, Wise said.

Garner has been recently seen as a television spokesman for the Beef Council.
