Carrie White, born during President Ulysses S. Grant's second term, was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records on Friday - her 114th birthday - as the world's oldest person. She has been institutionalized since she was 35 for mental illness, and now lives at the Putnam Memorial Nursing Home in Palatka, Fla. Her guardian, Marjorie Allen, said White, a piano teacher who once was married, likes to chew Red Man tobacco and play with stuffed animals, wears a hat all the time and never speaks of the past.
