A Moab businessman was bound over Tuesday to district court to stand trial on multiple child sexual abuse charges, 7th Circuit Court officials said.

Jimmy Ray Richardson was ordered to appear Dec. 12 for arraignment before 7th District Judge Boyd Bunnell, a court clerk said.Richardson originally was charged with five counts of sexual abuse of a child and four counts of sodomy on a child. But Judge Bruce Halliday agreed to allow prosecutors to file an amended complaint, which dropped the sodomy accusations.

The defendant remained free on his own recognizance. Prosecutors said they did not oppose Richardson's release because he is a 33-year resident of Moab, a businessman, and was not considered a flight risk.

The suspect is accused of abusing a boy, now 12, between 1984 and 1986. The alleged victim now lives with his family in Colorado, prosecutors said.
