A former Boy Scout leader who pleaded guilty Friday to sexually abusing a 9-year-old boy in April 1987 will be sentenced Dec. 16.

Allen Washburn, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony. He entered the plea before 4th District Judge Cullen Y. Christensen as part of an agreement by prosecutors to dismiss a second count of the same charge.Washburn, Orem, also has been charged in Spanish Fork 4th Circuit Court with two counts of forcible sexual abuse of a child. The charges stem from an alleged incident last Aug. 1 involving two boys, 15 and 16, at Camp Maple Dell in Payson Canyon.

The defendant served five years as a district executive for the Utah National Parks Council of the Boy Scouts of America before resigning Aug. 3.
