An extraordinarily high 92 percent of the registered voters in Davis County cast ballots during the Nov. 8 general election, state officials said Friday.
Utah County was not far behind with 84 percent, and Salt Lake County reported an 81 percent turnout. The Davis and Salt Lake figures were the highest in recent memory. Only 5,599 of the 75,092 registered voters in Davis County did not cast ballots.
Utah County's turnout was the best since 1980, when 87 percent of its voters showed up at polls.
State officials still do not have a final word on Utah's statewide voter turnout, but they estimate the figure will be close to 80 percent. Only 75 percent of the state's voters cast ballots in 1984.
