The third annual holiday pops concert by the Salt Lake Philharmonic orchestra, under direction of Eugene Jelesnik, will be presented free of charge on Friday evening in the newly enlarged Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel, 75 W. Temple.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. - and concertgoers are forewarned that Friday is also the night that the Christmas lights are turned on at Temple Square, an event which attracts thousands of people into the downtown area. Be prepared to face a considerable amount of traffic congestion.The Marriott's renovated ballroom will accommodate as many as 1,800 for the concert, which will feature such guest stars as tenor Art Lund, a Utah native who's starred in Broadway musicals and Hollywood films; soprano Billie Loukas and the Jensens, an up-and-coming trio comprised of Wendee, Margo and Kimberly, daughters of Dr. and Mrs. Verl A. Jensen of South Jordan.

Lund, who will perform "My Blue Heaven," "Peg O' My Heart," "Love Me or Leave Me," "Blue Skies" and "Mam'selle," began his show business career as a lead singer for the Benny Goodman Orchestra, then made his Broadway debut as Joey in "The Most Happy Fella," which ran for 676 performances. He also toured for two years with the show in the United States and appeared in London in the same role in 1960.

He's also appeared in several television shows and summer stock productions. Feature films in which he's performed include "The Molly Maguires" and "Baby Blue Marine." He's also performed at the White House and did two command performances for the Queen of England. He appeared with the late Henry Fonda in a two-man play entitled "Showdown at the Adobe Hotel." He has also been honored with a "star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame sidewalk in downtown Hollywood.

The Jensens, who perform as a country-western trio, have also been recognized for a number of individual accomplishments.

Margo, a television and stage actress with her own show, "Shop Talk," on KSL-TV, has been honored as homecoming queen at both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, as well as being chosen as All-American Homecoming Queen.

Wendee, a featured performer at Opryland in Nashville for five seasons and who has appeared on the Nashville Network, is a former Miss Provo, Miss Utah County and Miss Utah State Fair.

Kimberly, who has been Miss National Teenager of America, also teaches modeling and has worked in several behind-the-scenes jobs for the Miss National Teenager of America pageants.

Dino Georgalas, general manager of the hotel, said "The Marriott Hotel is proud to contribute our facilities for the music-loving people of Salt Lake to present this special holiday concert."

Instrumental selections on the evening's program will include "The Merry Widow," "Wine, Women and Song," a "Spirit of Christmas" medley, "Vienna March," "The Carioca" and "Orange Blossom Special."

Lund and Loukas will be featured in a duet of Irving Berlin's "You're Just in Love," and Loukas will also sing "Vienna, My City of Dreams," "Carmena" and "Mademoiselle de Paree."
