Utah was guaranteed a foot in the door at the White House when President-elect George Bush decided to select New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu to be his chief of staff.

Gov. Norm Bangerter became close friends with Sununu during the past four years - close enough that Sununu stayed with the Bangerters when he visited earlier this year.

"We have a very good friendship and relationship," Bangerter said. "Itwill probably be easier for me to get to Sununu."

Critics say Sununu is intelligent but arrogant. Bangerter characterized him as a "tough guy."

"He's agressive, and I think he understands the challenges."
