The Elks have donated $1,800 to the Salt Lake Veterans Administration Medical Center to purchase televisions for patients who are confined to their beds.

Federal procurement regulations prohibit the administration from purchasing entertainment systems with federal funds. The Elks also presented the center with deer hides, collected annually from local deer hunters to be used in patient therapy activities.

"We're here to serve the veterans," said Wasyl Hotz, state chairman of the National Service Committee for the Elks. "That's why we visit the veterans on Veterans' Day. It's just one of the programs we sponsor, but it's very important to us."
