The Salt Lake International Airport operations manager didn't think his gun was loaded when he accidentally fired a shot into his neighbor's apartment.

Ron Malin, who carries a .38-caliber handgun for his job, was in his apartment practicing a drill about 3 p.m. Tuesday when the gun discharged, according to a police report.The bullet went through Malin's kitchen wall, glanced off a wall in his next door neighbor's apartment, went through a door and lodged in another wall, the report said.

Malin told police he thought he had emptied the gun, the report said.
