Daily information on avalanche conditions is available by calling the Utah Avalanche Forecast Center.
Tom Kimbrough, a forecaster, said the information, available by calling numbers in Salt Lake City and four other cities, should be useful to skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers or anyone else traveling in snow-covered terrain."We advise them to give us a call before they head out," Kimbrough said. The recorded messages are updated daily or as conditions change.
Although winter storms only recently began to blanket Utah, Kimbrough said there have already been three human triggered avalanches. They occurred last weekend on Mount Timpanogos, in Little Cottonwood Canyon and in the area between Park City and Park West.
The numbers to call are 364-1581, Salt Lake City; 649-2250, Park City; 374-9770, Provo; 621-2362, Ogden; and 752-4146, Logan.
