When the library held its own election Nov. 4 for president and vice president, George Bush and Dan Quayle didn't even turn up in the results.That's because the candidates had to be storybook characters. The victors were Ramona Quimby for president and Little Red Riding Hood for vice president, running on the Read-o-crat Party ticket.
They garnered 44 percent of the vote to defeat the Wild Thing Party's candidates, Max and Wild Thing, who got 28 percent; the Li-beary-an Party's Paddington Bear and Corduroy, who finished with 12 percent; and the Seussian Party's Cat in the Hat for president and Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose, who trailed with 11 percent.
The election was one of several Freaky Friday programs offered to school-age children at 2 p.m. each Friday. Space for the free programs is limited, and groups of five or more should call 363-5733 in advance.
