A Salt Lake woman clad in a Halloween "jungle" costume was in serious condition Friday with head injuries suffered in a collision between her car and the Brigham Young Monument on South Temple and Main Street, Salt Lake police say.

Officer Louie Muniz said witnesses reported that the 18-year-old woman's car was westbound on First South shortly after midnight Friday when it turned onto Main Street, ran a red light and hit the monument while making a wide right turn. The woman was taken to LDS Hospital in serious condition, Muniz said.

Flower pots on the base of the monument were shattered, but no major damage resulted. The woman's car was traveling about 40 mph at impact, Muniz said.
