A USAir DC-9 carrying 103 people skidded off the end of a runway during an aborted takeoff Tuesday night at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, but there were no injuries, officials said.
"During takeoff, and this has yet to be confirmed, we think he (the pilot) had a tire blow, and a piece of the tire may have been ingested into one of the engines, causing the engine to lose power," USAir spokesman David Shipley said. "The captain elected to abort the takeoff. He was not in the air. He went off the end of the runway slightly."Shipley said damage to the aircraft was minimal and there was no emergency evacuation.
