A five-headed Khmer bust of Siva, the Hindu god of destruction and reproduction, has sold for $574,200, an auction record for any Southeast Asian work of art at auction, Sotheby's said.

The 311/2-inch high, gray sandstone bust was sold Monday by an anonynmous collector and bought by an unidentified bidder. The figure dated from the third quarter of the 10th century. No history of it was otherwise recorded, except that the uppermost head had been in the Pan Asian Collection, most of which is in the Los Angeles County Museum.
