A 13-year-old girl was seriously burned when electricity from a lightning strike outside her home traveled through underground lines as she was talking on the phone.

The lightning entered the underground telephone lines and went through the telephone. She suffered burns on her ear and chest and was treated and released from Allen Memorial Hospital in Moab.
