The Israeli army said it arrested at least 54 Palestinian guerrillas in the West Bank Monday. Israeli radio reports Monday said Palestinians in Arab east Jerusalem distributed leaflets with the hymn of their soon-to-be-proclaimed state. The arrests and the destruction of several houses were reported by Israel radio. A military spokesman confirmed the reports but did not elaborate. The reports said the arrests and destruction of houses were intended to serve as a deterrent to violence before the declaration of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
