Carol Channing and composer Jerry Herman sang "Hello, David!" as Broadway producer David Merrick was saluted as the Man of the Year by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Channing played the lead in Herman's "Hello Dolly!," one of the many hits produced by Merrick.The gala event Saturday at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel raised $1.5 million for the foundation, which is the principal provider of non-government funds for diabetes research, said spokesman Sam Rudy.

The 75-year-old Merrick, who has produced more than 80 shows on Broadway, was saluted by such stars as Mary Martin and Georgia Brown and the cast of "42nd Street," tapped out a production number from Merrick's latest hit.
