Solidarity leader Lech Walesa says the political climate in Poland has worsened to the point that he fears round-table talks with the government are not possible until the situation improves.

Walesa made the comments in Gdansk Sunday as some 80 people on a hunger strike in southwest Poland demanded the reinstatement of scores of workers fired after a round of strikes last August."I don't believe the round-table talks will take place because we don't have a suitable climate (now)," Walesa said. "But I think that finally common sense will win."
