Utah filmmaker Claudia Sisemore's latest documentary, "Building a Legacy: Contemporary Pioneering Women," will have its premiere Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Salt Lake Art Center auditorium, 20 S. West Temple. Admission is $4.

The educational film, made for the Utah State Office of Education, compares modern Utah women in the male-dominated work force to the pioneer women of the 1800s.Sisemore's subjects are women who have broken ground in their respective fields: pediatrician Dr. Susan Riechert, mountain climber Heidi Brown, geologist Genevieve Atwood, banker Vee Carlisle, publisher Karen Shepherd, singer Martha Chavez, TV producer/filmmaker Judy Hallet and educators Dr. Afesa Adams and Sherry Christensen.

The film offers brief profiles of each woman, then has them address particular areas, such as how they balance career and family, how they are perceived in their chosen professions and what in their lives drives them to excel.

Sisemore is a producer/director of educational films for the State Office of Education. The screening Thursday, presented by the Utah Media Arts Center, will be followed by a reception. For further information phone 534-1158.
