King Hussein of Jordan, PLO chief Yasser Arafat and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met Saturday in a surprise summit before a meeting next month in which an independent Palestine state is expected to be announced.

Arafat flew to the Jordanian resort of Aqaba on the Red Sea early Saturday with Mubarak to meet Hussein for the first time since the unexpected July 31 announcement Jordan was severing ties with the Israeli-occupied West Bank.The three leaders met behind closed doors at the royal palace without aides for 11/2 hours for policy coordination talks, the agency said.
