A West Valley City man was upgraded from serious to fair condition Friday at LDS Hospital where he is being treated for injuries suffered when he was pinned against a fence post by his truck.

Herbert Sperber, 52, was injured as he was leaving work at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at Heraclone Welding, 1636 S. Pioneer Road. He parked his pickup truck outside the firm's gate to return and lock the gate, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Tom Brown. As he was closing the gate, Brown said the truck apparently popped into reverse gear and rolled back, pinning Sperber's leg between the rear of the truck and a fence post. A co-worker who witnessed the accident helped move the vehicle off Sperber and called an ambulance.
