Nigerian officials say they will install a Moslem sultan, whose appointment this week caused violent riots that killed 10 people, when calm returns to the country.

Col. Ahmed Daku, military governor of northwestern Sokoto State, told reporters those disputing the selection of Ibrahim Dasuki to succeed Sadiq Abubakar should take the matter to court. As sultan, Abubakar for 50 years led Nigeria's influential Moslem community, numbering perhaps 50 million and making up 43 percent of the population of Africa's most populous nation. He died Nov. 1 at age 85.
