More than $90,000 was raised for the University Hospital Endowment during the 1988 University Hospital Utah Open Golf Tournament in August, university officials say.
"The endowment now totals $404,096 - money that has been given to University Hospital since the golf tournament became a benefit event in 1981," said Dick Alexander, tournament director."Eighty-five percent of the interest on the endowment is used each year to help pay hospital operating costs," Alexander said. The remaining 15 percent is added to the endowment principal to protect it from inflation.
"Our dream is to have the hospital endowment so large that the interest on it will contribute significantly to hospital operations, helping keep costs down for all our patients," he said.
Alexander said major supporters of this year's benefit included American Express, Dr Pepper Bottling Co., Baxter Healthcare, Hercules, Delta Air Lines, Eastern Airlines, Deseret Medical, Medirec, Physicians Supply, and M&M Distributing.
