Between Nov. 15 and Dec. 1, members of the Tourism Committee of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will meet with small groups of legislators to convince them to increase the annual budget of the Utah Division of Travel Development.

Larry Jackstien , committee chairman, told the chamber's board of governors the division's budget has decreased in the past two years, while tourism promotion budgets in other states have increased dramatically. Another item to consider is that advertising rates have increased 32 percent in that time, he said."We will try and convince the legislators of the competition from other states for the tourism dollar and the need to stay competitive," Jackstien said.

In too many instances, Jackstien said, a few people visit the legislators during the busy session and try to convince them of the need for more tourism promotion money. The November meetings are an attempt to talk to them much earlier and consider an increase in the budget.
