The world's first aircraft capable of using liquid hydrogen as fuel has been tested in the Soviet Union, Tass news agency reported on Saturday.

The TU-155 plane, created by the Andrei Tupolev Experimental Design Office, was taken on a test flight on Friday by pilot V. Sevankayev, it said.

As only water and energy were required to liquefy hydrogen, the fuel was better for the environment than oil-based motor fuels, it added.
