Dean Samuels, Midvale, who says he has been a school superintendent, teacher, business owner and corporate executive, has announced his gubernatorial candidacy on the Republican ticket.

"I'm convinced we can raise revenues without raising taxes in the state. Our recent history is, however, just the opposite. We have lost revenue and raised taxes. People are demanding a stop to tax increases," Samuels said.Samuels says his short-range plans call for immediate economic changes by "stimulating local business with tax incentives, then increasing the state's efforts to lure outside businesses."

Also, "we can do a better job of capitalizing on our state's greatest assets our spectacular natural beauty and recreational resources. Tourist dollars are one of the cheapest ways of bolstering our economy."

Samuels says he has bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University,, an administrative certificate from the University of Utah and a doctorate degree from Brigham Young University.
