A Highland man has been placed on 18 months probation after receiving two suspended prison terms of one to 15 years for his guilty pleas to two counts of child sexual abuse, second-degree felonies.

As terms of probation, Clifford Lynn Clegg, 34, on Friday was ordered to pay $1,250 in fines, serve 90 days in jail and undergo therapy in a sexual offender program. Fourth District Judge George E. Ballif, however, stayed the jail time pending a six-month review of Clegg's progress under probation.Ballif said he would rather not waive jail time but that he preferred to see Clegg back with his family so family members could better resolve problems.

The sexual abuse charges stem from incidents in June 1985, May 1987 and April 1988. Clegg faced a possible prison term of up to 15 years.
