Dr. Charles B. Smith, associate chairman and professor of internal medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and chief of medical service at the Salt Lake Veterans Administration Medical Center, has been appointed a member of the Part II Medicine Test Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners. The board prepares and administers qualifying examinations that are used in most states as a major criterion for obtaining a license.

The University of Utah Nursing School has named Associate Professor Dale Lund as director of its Gerontology Center. Lund has been a faculty member for the past eight years. He focused his research on taking care of relatives with Alzheimer's Disease and the relationships of multigenerational households. The federally funded gerontology center serves six Rocky Mountain area states, providing technical assistance to government agencies that deal with problems of older citizens.

Robert F. Boehm, University of Utah mechanical and industrial engineering professor, is the Outstanding Teacher for 1988 in the College of Engineering. Boehm, active in heat transfer and energy conversion research, is an authority on solar energy systems and alternate energy sources. Boehm, a university faculty member since 1968, has published three books and 120 articles in technical publications.
