Utah Republican candidates are getting help from some pretty powerful members of the GOP from Washington, D.C., including President Reagan.
Gov. Norm Bangerter recently received a letter from Reagan on stationery imprinted with the presidential seal advising him that the nation's chief executive is glad the Republican governor is running for re-election."Dear Norm," the letter begins, "The leadership and dedication that you have demonstrated as Governor of Utah have been an inspiration to us here in Washington."
That sets the tone for the seven-paragraph letter, which warns against returning to "the failed policies of the past."
On Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole will stump for Richard Snelgrove, the Republican who's trying to replace Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, in the 2nd District.
Dole will appear at a $300-a-plate fund-raising dinner at LaCaille at Quail Run in Sandy. All four Republican members of Utah's congressional delegation have been invited to attend.
