Salt Lake City and state travel promoters are planning a reception and banquet at the annual National Tour Association convention in Kansas City next month.

Utah will play host to next year's convention, so it is sponsoring the 1988 reception and banquet, a spokesman said.Marie Osmond will be the featured entertainment, performing on a stage depicting Utah's mountains and red rock country.

The NTA is the largest organization of group tour operators, hotels, motels and resorts in North American, the spokesman said, noting states and cities have experienced dramatic increases in group tours as a result of hosting NTA's annual gathering.

"Not only will the delegates be spending (an estimated) $3.5 million while they're here, they'll also be getting a first-hand look at the city and the state," said Jay C. Woolley, Utah Travel Council director.

Tourism is Utah's largest industry with group tours alone bringing $112 million into the state in 1987.
