An Avenues-area convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night, Salt Lake Police reported.

Salt Lake Lt. Norm Thompson said a man entered Smith's Independent, 401 First Ave., about 8:20 p.m. and pointed a long-barreled revolver at the store attendant and demanded cash from the store's cash register. The man then fled with an undetermined amount of cash.The suspect was described as medium height with light brown hair and was wearing a tan-colored straw hat, a purple jacket and jeans. Thompson said the robber also wore a brown bandana over his face with eye holes cut in the cloth.
