Police arrested a South High School student Friday afternoon in connection with the robbery and beating death of a Salt Lake man.
Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy then took him to the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center, where he will be referred to Juvenile Court, homicide squad Sgt. Don Bell said.
The teenager, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is being held in the death of Norbert Begay, 22, whose body was discovered about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 8. Two 10-year-old boys playing in Jordan Park, 1060 S. Ninth West, found the body but initially believed the victim was only sleeping.
Police speculated that Begay may have died of hypothermia, but an autopsy determined the primary cause of death was a beating, which was perpetrated with hands and fists, Bell said.
The homicide remains under investigation, Bell said. "We want to talk to some other people. There may be other arrests."
