A Kearns man charged with hitting a police officer with his car Feb. 13, pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Victor Romero, 25, 4786 W. 4865 South, entered the plea before 5th Circuit Judge Tyrone Medley.West Valley City patrolman Darwin Woodruff was in the roadway helping a stalled motorist at 4427 S. 36th West, when the car Romero was driving hit the officer, then left. Another passer-by stopped and pulled Woodruff out of the street, then summoned help on the officer's police radio.

Romero turned himself in at the West Valley police station several days later and was originally charged with a class-A misdemeanor.

Medley ordered a pre-sentence evaluation from Adult Probation and Parole, and set sentencing for May 20.
