Lucas Western, the California-based division of a United Kingdom firm, Lucas Areospace International, has chosen an area six miles north of Park City in Summit County to build a 200-employee manufacturing plant.
The company announced its intent to move to Utah in January and until now has been working with its board of directors to select one of three locations - Roy, Ogden or Summit County.Mike Rott, plant manager, said the facility will employ about 120 craftsmen and 40 each of administrative and technical people. Almost all will come from Utah, he said.
Rott said the high quality of the Park City School District, as well as an excellent financial proposal from Summit County, figured in the decison.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for August and Rott expects the plant to be operating by spring 1989. It will primarily manufacture airplane and aerospace components for the defense industry.
