Halloween ghosts and goblins and family pets don't mix, Salt Lake County Animal Services officials warn.

With that in mind, officials are urging pet owners to take precautions to ensure a safe Halloween for pets and local trick-or-treaters.Pet owners are urged to find a quiet and safe spot for their animals, away from front yards and front doors. Also, pet owners are urged to keep outdoor pets on a leash in an area away from where children may be present. Increased traffic and pedestrians pose an increased safety risk for pets not properly secured. And, as an added precaution, officials ask that pet owners make sure pets are wearing up-dated identification tags to ensure that any that get loose can be returned to their owners.
