Law enforcement authorities Friday arrested two Navajo men and were seeking two others on charges in the December slayings of two tribal police officers.
The arrests stem from the slayings of Andy Begay, 35, and Roy Lee Stanley, 27, whose charred bodies were found in a burned-out police van at a remote southern Utah des-ert site on Dec. 5.FBI Special Agent Bob Lund in Salt Lake City said the names of the suspects were not being released pending the arrest of the two still at large and the filing of federal charges of murder on an Indian reservation.
Lund said two men were arrested Friday morning in Monument Valley near the Utah-Arizona border on warrants issued Thursday. The search for the other two men was centered on the Kayenta, Ariz., and Monument Valley areas, he said.
The arrests, conducted by FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs agents and Navajo police, culminated a investigation in which more than 100 tribal members were interviewed.
