The Army says it is extending the time for comments on the proposed aerosol test facility at Dugway Proving Ground.
Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, released the text of a letter from John W. Shannon, assistant Army secretary, to Gov. Norm Bangerter, noting that the service "is extending today the public comment period on the draft environmental impact statement" for the proposed biosafety level 4 biological warfare defense laboratory. It is the second time the period has been extended.Hansen said the delay will, as he suggested, postpone the Army's decision on Dugway beyond the August 1988 date.
Shannon's letter also said the Pentagon will publish a draft environmental impact statement on the overall biological defense research program no later than May 12.
