Salt Lake City, Utah-Doris Lyle Nielson Barney, age 78, has gone home, Friday, March 6, 1992, after a lingering illness endured with her unique blend of dignity and good humor.
She was born September 27, 1913, in Huntington, Emery County, Utah, to Abel Christian and Pearl McKee Riley Nielson. She and Kline Porter Barney were married 60 years ago, February 19, 1932, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. An active church worker and main stay of the East Millcreek (later East Millcreek 11th) Ward for 52 years, she served in all auxiliaries, as Relief Society President and on the Relief Society and Primary Stake Boards, a stake mission, 1954-56, and a full-time mission with her favorite companion, Kline, in Ohio-Columbus, 1977-79. She loved to be involved and was the Salt Lake County Republican Jury Commissioner for 19 years, registrar and election judge for 46 years, a "Pink Lady" at the LDS Hospital and active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (EastMill creek Neff Camp). She developed a strong bond with her relatives and ancestors, fulfilled this week: she loves reunions!She leaves behind her beloved husband, Kline, Salt Lake City; two sons and four daughters, Kay and Gene Pratt, Laramie, Wyo., Kline, Jr. and Cheryl Barney, Arcadia, Calif., Patricia and Alan Grey, Provo, Linda and Melvin Stanford, Burnsville, MN, Richard and Sherry Barney, Salt Lake City, and Janeal and Joseph Cannon, Provo; 33 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Vernon and Dora Nielsen, Edith Nielson, Phyllis and Rex Reeve, Ruby and Gene McClellan, Marjorie and Ted Eason and Burke and Lois Nielson. Preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Christian; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 10th, 11 a.m., at the East Millcreek 11th Ward, 2702 East Evergreen Ave. (3435 So.) with Bishop Gilbert Scharffs officiating. Friends may call Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 So. 2300 East, and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens of the Valley. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Funeral Chapel.
