Two firefighters were injured in the battle against a 60-acre fire that appeared to have been deliberately set in South Fork Canyon, officials said.

Fire broke out early Monday in several locations along a two-mile stretch of U-39 just east of Huntsville and about 6 miles east of Pineview Reservoir, said Weber Fire District Capt. Ken Dixon."There were more fires than they could count," he said.

The fire was contained by late Monday and was expected to be controlled Tuesday, said Battalion Chief Bill Criddle.

Two Weber County firefighters, Mike Nestor and Bob Gillespie, were hurt when they slipped and fell. Nester suffered broken ribs and Gillespie injured his back, Dixon said.

Police questioned a 23-year-old Ogden man walking along the road about 3 a.m., 45 minutes after the first fire was reported. He denied setting the fires, authorities said.
