Court hearings again have been continued for a former Utah man accused of taking advance payments from Ogden residents for concrete projects and then doing shoddy work or failing to start construction.

Paul Lavern Behrens, 44, Orange County, Calif., is facing 11 misdemeanor counts and two felony counts.Behrens was scheduled to go on trial Friday for the misdemeanor charges. He also was scheduled to enter pleas in 2nd District Court to second-degree felony charges of theft by deception and issuing checks without sufficient funds. Those hearings have been continued until April 29.

Behrens is facing misdemeanor charges of acting in the capacity of a contractor with a state license, doing business without a license, advertising without a license and advertising as a contractor without a license.

Prosecutors allege the crimes occurred in 1984, right before Behrens moved to California.
