The Salt Lake City-Ogden metropolitan area grew by 15.9 percent between 1980 and 1987, according to recently released Census Bureau estimates.
With the increase, the metro Salt Lake-Ogden area now ranks as the nation's 37th largest - up four spots from its 1980 ranking of 41st.According to a July 1, 1987, estimate, 1,054,500 individuals lived in Salt Lake-Ogden last year - an increase of 144,300 over the seven-year period. The increase between 1986 and 1987 was 14,400, census officials said.
The annual growth rate since 1980 was 2.25 percent. The area grew by 1.38 percent between 1986 and 1987.
In terms of rate of growth, Salt Lake-Ogden ranked 58th of 282 designated metropolitan areas. Thirty-seven areas had populations of more than 1 million.
