Dugway Proving Ground's commander, Col. Jan Van Prooyen, has issued a stern reminder to all post employees that racial discrimination and slurs are illegal and won't be tolerated.

Dugway Public Affairs Officer Kathy Whitaker said the letter was issued Friday after base employee Larry Parker, who is black, complained that his children were the object of slurs and harassment in their post neighborhood as well as at school.Whitaker said the commander called together the families whose children were involved and told them that if the children could not abide by the rules, he'd take action. His options range from issuing an official warning letter to ordering the families to move off base.

Parker has expressed a desire to leave Utah and has been offered jobs at two other Army installations, and the commander is assisting him in pursuing those options, Whitaker said.
