European boxing champion Francesco Damiani of Italy won an unofficial semifinal for the world heavyweight title when the doctor stopped American Tyrell Biggs in the fifth round at Milan's Palatrussardi Arena on Saturday night.

Biggs, a 27-year-old from Philadelphia, was bleeding heavily from a deep right eyebrow cut when doctor Mario Sturla stepped into the ring and ended the fight 1:06 minutes into the round.It was sweet revenge for Damiani, who had been outpointed by the American in their three previous amateur fights, including the Olympic final in Los Angeles in 1986.
