Elder Boyd K. Packer, a member of the Council of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak Oct. 30 at a Brigham Young University 17-stake fireside.

The fireside, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Marriott Center, will be broadcast on KBYU-TV on Nov. 6 at 6 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.Elder Packer, a member of the BYU board of trustees, was called to the Council of the Twelve in 1970 after serving nine years as an Assistant to the Twelve.

An educator by profession, his career includes service as supervisor of Seminaries and Institutes of Religion for the church.

Elder Packer studied at Weber State College in Ogden and subsequently received bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University and a doctoral degree in educational administration from BYU.
