A man who asked police to show him how their squad car computer worked was arrested after the demonstration showed he was wanted for a 1986 armed robbery in St. Louis, Mo.
R.C. Gaitlin was taken into custody Tuesday night after a check of his driver's license revealed he was a fugitive, said Detroit Police spokesman Fred Zaharoff.Zaharoff said Gaitlin, 21, walked up to two patrol officers who were showing their electronic equipment to children in a neighborhood on the city's east side.
When Gaitlin asked how the system worked, the officers asked him for a piece of identification to enter into the computer. Moments later, they learned he was wanted by St. Louis police, Zaharoff said.
