The House has passed a bill to permit veterans and Ute Indians to share federal health facilities in Fort Duchesne when the Roosevelt Veterans Administration clinic is closed Nov. 30.

Rep. Howard Nielson, R-Utah, who sponsored the bill, said that otherwise Uintah Basin veterans would have to drive 145 miles to Salt Lake City for treatment.Indians would become eligible for outpatient care in the Salt Lake City VA Hospital.

The bill states that the arrangement must not impair the quality of care Indians receive in Fort Du-chesne.
