A Houston veterinarian who rescued an endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle from a drainage ditch said Saturday he believes the creature was dumped there by a fisherman.
Joe Flanagan, a veterinarian at the Houston Zoo, found the rare turtle Friday in Pearland, which is 25 miles from the nearest salt water in Galveston Bay. Federal officials say it is the farthest a Ridley has ever been found from the Gulf of Mexico."I speculate that somebody caught it while they were fishing in the gulf, brought it home to show their family and then brought it to a nearby body of water," Flanagan said.
The Kemp's Ridley is an extremely endangered species.
