Notary public services have been discontinued by the Salt Lake County Library System as part of an ongoing reorganization effort, a system spokeswoman said.

"We need to really look at the cost-effectiveness of what we're doing," said Evelyn Tuddenham, noting that although the public was charged $1 for notary public service, the fee "didn't even come close" to covering the cost. Also considered in making the decision to discontinue the service, Tuddenham said, was the availability of notary public services at banks, real estate offices, title companies and other locations throughout the area.
